The full renovation project of the Caxias Apartment, a 1990s two-bedroom unit, was developed by Atelier Bruno Câmara Arquitectos as a first home for a young couple. Located in Caxias, an area in Oeiras known for its quality of life, proximity to the sea and convenient accessibility between Lisbon and Cascais, the apartment required a transformation that would maximise functionality and natural light. The key intervention was the demolition of the walls separating the entrance hall, living room and kitchen, creating a large open-plan social area complemented by indirect artificial lighting and enhanced spatial continuity. The adopted aesthetic is contemporary and minimalist, focused on lightness and harmony.
Materiality defines the project’s concept, establishing a fluid connection between the social area and the private zone. The choice of noble materials, such as marble and solid wood, is reflected in the flooring, kitchen counters and bathroom finishes, giving the spaces refinement and individuality. These materials both contrast with and complement the neutral elements, such as the white built-in furniture and white walls, creating a clean and balanced aesthetic. In the private area, a master suite with walk-in closet was created, reinforcing the contemporary and minimalist spatial experience through integrated furniture and indirect lighting, ensuring greater comfort and functionality.
