The Guimarães Learning Center project was born out of the need to create an innovative, dynamic, and inspiring space for the young people of Guimarães, the European Capital of Culture in 2012. With the concept of “Levitating over the history of Portugal,” the project establishes a unique dialogue between the rich historical heritage and new technologies. Strategically and symbolically located next to the city wall, this 60m² space offers an unprecedented fusion of culture and experimentation, being one of the first examples of a learning center with this approach in Portugal. The architectural intervention seeks to enhance the historical context through a subtle elevation that offers a contemplative and privileged view over Guimarães, the birthplace of the city. The center focuses on emerging areas such as multimedia and cinema, encouraging the population to actively consume culture, using and exploring the latest technologies. The Guimarães Learning Center is thus more than just a structure; it is a meeting point where the past inspires the future, elevating heritage to a platform for innovation and contemporary creativity.
