The Apartment on Artilharia 1 project is a full renovation that transformed a former 202 m² office into a four-bedroom residence, responding to the demands of Lisbon’s housing market. Located in a central and privileged area of the city, the project aimed to enhance real estate value through author-driven architecture, adapting the space to modern standards of comfort and functionality while preserving the historical value of the surrounding architectural context. The central concept, as defined by architect Bruno Câmara, is expressed in his statement: “Architecture is light, and nobility lies in the materials.”
The intervention emphasised natural light and spatial quality, capitalising on the apartment’s three façades and varied solar orientations. Through the demolition of interior walls and the introduction of a new light opening in an enclosed balcony, the project created larger and brighter spaces, including a generous social area with an open-plan kitchen connected to the living room. The aesthetic approach follows a minimalist language free from ornamentation. Materiality and the transition between areas, from the social spaces to the private zone (four bedrooms, three of which are master suites), are defined by the use of noble materials: marble stone in the kitchen and bathrooms, and solid wood, which unifies the spaces. Natural light is complemented by indirect artificial lighting integrated into continuous planes, ensuring harmony and softness, and reinforcing the idea of a new, comfortable way of living in the heart of the city.
