Located in the foyer of the Berardo Collection Museum in Lisbon, the project occupies a transitional space between exhibition rooms, organising two distinct environments. The first, the Lounge, is defined by organic forms and a subtle difference in levels, highlighted by indirect lighting beneath the steps. This gesture creates a more private area, counterbalancing the intense flow of visitors moving through the museum.
The second space, the Lounge Express, establishes a formal tension with the first, adopting a primitive and austere geometry, entirely black and centred around a small stage. The coexistence of these two universes — one curvilinear and introspective, the other more direct and scenographic — shapes the identity of the Lounge Café and its relationship with the museum’s cultural dynamic.
The articulation between these two spaces seeks to create a sequential reading of the foyer, allowing visitors to move between moments of retreat and interaction. Materiality, light, and form operate as mediators between the museum’s daily rhythm and the café experience, generating a sensory pause within the visitor’s journey. In this way, the Lounge Café asserts itself as a natural extension of the museum’s artistic atmosphere.
