The MAC Panama Project proposes the creation of a civic hub defined by a deliberate “void” within the dense urban fabric. This focal point takes the form of an urban graft composed of four main cylindrical cores that elevate and support the museum as an “Art Box,” returning the ground to the city and dissolving physical and social boundaries in the interest of cultural democratization. The morphology establishes a model of spatial continuity where pathways lined with native vegetation deconstruct the rigidity of the “corridor street,” allowing the pedestrian route to flow uninterrupted toward the central plaza. At the heart of this system lies the civic amphitheater, a tropical agora conceived as a device for social engagement to host lectures, exhibitions, and the daily rhythm of Boca la Caja. Through a phenomenological transformation, this space becomes a circular reflecting pool, allowing for an alternation between the intensity of collective gathering and the serenity of contemplation, functioning as an essential thermal catalyst for the local microclimate. The architecture functions as a passive bioclimatic machine, taking advantage of the prevailing north and northeast winds to ventilate the shaded plaza. On the upper floor, solar exposure is regulated by retractable panels that transform tropical radiation into a diffused and sheltered atmosphere, affirming that the museum must breathe art and return it in its entirety to its people.
