Located at the mouth of the Tagus River, the White Theatre adopts the contemplative view as its conceptual foundation, transforming the horizon into a permanent backdrop. The ecological and intentionally temporary construction, composed of self-supporting and removable white concrete blocks, gives the project a quiet and harmonious presence, subtly integrating into the unique landscape of Cova do Vapor, where panoramic views of 270 degrees reveal Lisbon, the Tagus estuary and the Caparica coastline.
The project establishes a cultural space for the local community and for the city of Almada, capable of hosting theatre, classical and contemporary music, gatherings, events or simply the daily enjoyment of a contemplative setting. The intervention enhances the village’s waterfront, offering a meeting place where the purity of form and the Atlantic light of the estuary become integral to the experience of the site.
The proposal creates a stage for the landscape, where the white geometry engages with the stillness of the beach and the vastness of the Tagus estuary, merging architecture, territory and horizon into a presence that is both discreet and absolute.
