Desa Limasan Retreat
61 m²
Integrated within the Desa Limasan Retreat in Java, the villa interprets the architectural memory of Javanese tradition against a tropical landscape. Set on an elevated site with contemplative views over Watu Karung Beach, the villa rises above the topography, floating over the treetops in a continuous relationship between sea, forest, and horizon.
The arrival is defined by a winding path that cuts through dense vegetation, revealing alternating fragments of light and shadow until reaching a circular element in solid handmade brick. Austere, silent, and sculptural, it serves as a contemplative space. From this point, through a single window, one observes the renowned wave of Watu Karung, a destination sought by surfers worldwide, whose force contrasts with the almost ritual serenity of the setting.
The architecture reinterprets the ancestral language of the traditional Limasan houses, revisiting their wooden structural systems, roof geometry, and intimate interior spaces. Local materials such as solid handcrafted brick, exotic woods, and polished cement ground the project in an organic presence deeply rooted in Javanese culture and in the physical identity of the territory.
The villa unfolds as a sensory retreat: social spaces that breathe with the sea, shaded verandas, intimate contemplative patios, and a master bedroom oriented toward the beach views. Tropical light, filtered through the materials, shapes an atmosphere of inner quietude, where architecture becomes a mediator between nature, culture, and personal reflection, inviting visitors to recover their sense of time during a few days of retreat.
